Intelligent Solutions For Those Facing A New Reality

A divorce can completely alter your life. With so much change, maintaining some sort of consistency is important to help you both move forward with your life and adapt to new circumstances.

At Burbank & Collins, P.S.C., we have comprehensive experience in assisting high-asset individuals and families across Louisville and central Kentucky with spousal maintenance. We aim to provide you with informed, intelligent and knowledgeable solutions to protect your interests on complex divorce matters.

Spousal Maintenance Awarded In Kentucky

Spousal maintenance is by no means a given in every divorce. Spousal maintenance, also referred to as alimony or spousal support, orders one spouse to provide financial support to the other for a period of time. There are three distinct types:

  • Permanent. Granted indefinitely, permanent spousal maintenance is typically only awarded in select situations.
  • Temporary. One of the most common forms of alimony, temporary spousal maintenance is awarded briefly, typically for the duration of the divorce proceeding.
  • Rehabilitative. Meant to assist those in need of a boost, rehabilitative spousal maintenance is granted on a temporary period of up to several years.

Spousal maintenance is determined by examining several factors of the two divorcing spouses, including length of the marriage, income of both individuals, the period of time that the receiving individual would need to become self-sufficient and more.

Unique Experience With Complex Divorce Matters

Spousal maintenance can be a contentious issue. For potential payors, you may fear paying a significant portion of your income to your ex-spouse indefinitely. For potential recipients, you may fear a diminished standard of living. Especially for those who sacrificed careers to maintain the home or to be the primary caregiver, spousal maintenance can be a central topic in a divorce proceeding.

Lawyer Reneaux Collins has nearly three decades of experience in working with high-asset individuals and families on complex family law issues across central Kentucky. At Burbank & Collins, P.S.C., we empower our clients throughout a divorce proceeding with our assertive, sophisticated and dedicated representation to protect their interests.
